Ben Gurion Duty-Free & Shopping Guide
"Patur & Shamur" Shopping Storage Service
A highly popular and convenient service at Ben Gurion Airport that allows departing passengers to purchase duty-free goods (electronics, cosmetics, alcohol, and chocolates) before takeoff and leave them in secure storage at the airport for free. Upon returning to Israel, you can collect your purchases directly at the "Patur & Shamur" counter located in the baggage claim area (just before customs clearance). This service is fully operational in Terminal 3, with specific arrangements in place for Terminal 1 travelers.
Customs Limits & Import Allowances for Israel
Israeli Customs enforces strict limits on duty-free allowances upon entering the country. Passengers aged 18 or older are permitted to bring: up to 200 cigarettes (1 carton) or 250 grams of tobacco products; 1 liter of spirits (above 22% ABV) and 2 liters of wine; up to 250ml of perfume; and general gifts up to a total value of $200 (including food up to 3kg). Bringing cash or equivalent financial instruments exceeding 50,000 ILS must be declared.
VAT Refund for Foreign Tourists
Non-Israeli citizens are eligible for a 17% VAT refund on goods purchased for over 400 ILS at authorized retail stores nationwide. To claim your refund, present your original invoices and purchased items at the tax refund desk operated by Milgam. In Terminal 3, the desks are located in the public departures hall (before security checks) and inside the duty-free rotunda area (after passport control).
Shopping Facilities: Terminal 3 vs Terminal 1
Terminal 3 features the famous "Rotunda" – a massive circular duty-free arena hosting dozens of global designer boutiques, electronics outlets, luxury dining, and premium lounges (like the Dan Lounge). In contrast, Terminal 1 offers a compact, fast-paced shopping layout. Budget travelers in Terminal 1 still enjoy access to core James Richardson beauty counters, electronics, local sweets, book stores, and cafes for quick convenience before low-cost flights.
